As 2020 comes to a close, we’re finishing up the last of our outdoor projects. We have a small hoop greenhouse to finish up and a bunch of garlic to plant. We did a final till on Colleen’s experiment garden which worked well. We originally flailed a 50′ x 30′ plot that was thick with Fireweed. Next we ran the rotary plow over it. That left us with an uneven ripped up mass of roots and dirt. We left it for the summer and encouraged the chickens to spend time there. Today we used the BCS and the PDR to till it.

Seeds for Next Year
We picked up some seeds to get started next spring. After a bit of research we decided to buy from Territorial Seed Company, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, and Sustainable Seed Company. We ordered the following vegetable seeds:
- Blue Curled Scotch Kale
- Red Ursa Kale
- Nero Di Toscana Cabbage
- Atomic Red Carrots
- Organic Solar Yellow Carrots
- Detroit Dark Red Beets
- Organic Purple Top White Globe Turnips
- Giant Nobel Spinach
For cover crops, we purchased White Dutch Clover and Hard White Wheat. We’re going to mix the cover crops with the vegetables to keep the soil covered with something alive for better weed control.
Be well & green dreams!
