Summer is here in Homer but it is certainly not the norm. Covid has and continues to influence the tourism and locals lives. Many shops are closed. The restaurants that are open are mostly takeout only. It is hard to believe that things will go back to normal anytime this summer much less this year.
That said, the natural beauty continues to deliver as always. Here are a few pics that we snapped while taking our dogs for hikes.

Most restaurants are open for either takeout or limited seating. Our favorites are Little Mermaid, Wasabi’s, Cosmic Cafe, and Fat Olive’s. Little Mermaid was on the Spit but moved over to Pioneer Ave. in downtown Homer. They serve up some of the best food we have ever come across. Wasabi is infamous for their sushi. Cosmic has some of the best halibut burritos in town. Fat Olive’s makes a mean pizza. La Baleine is another favorite but they have yet to open. When they do open, try their King crab sandwiches. They also make handy little box lunches to go for those heading out on day charters (they open at 6 am).
If you are looking for outdoor activities and some solitude, this may be an ideal time to visit. Lodging is likely available at discounts and crowds are non existent.
Green dreams!
