Winter is almost here. We should be below freezing next week. The Spit crowds have left. Camping areas are mostly empty with only a random RV. Spit shops have shut down and been boarded up. There are rumors that Raven Air might resume operations out of Homer but for now it is a 4 to 5 hour ride out of Anchorage to get down here. That’s actually not such a bad thing for the rest of us who live here.
We are looking forward to the snow. A new world opens up for fat tire biking, cross country skiing, and winter fishing. The town transforms into a charming little Alpine village on the sea. Covid may minimize social gatherings but Alaska has always been about the outdoors. That won’t change.
