Chicken Talk

Admin · May 4, 2020 · Leave a Comment

We’re getting back into chickens again. We have had them in the past and always enjoyed them as pets along with their egg contributions. We are starting with a rooster and 10 hens. In the past we had a mixed group of hens: Barred Rock, Easter Eggers, and Rhode Island Reds. This time we going entirely with Buff Orpingtons.

The Buffs are attractive to us for their egg laying quantity, cold weather hardiness, and their foraging reputation. They will be free range chickens and occasional cover crop tillers.

Coops

Since they will free range, we won’t need a run. After some searching online, we ran into the following coop for 12 birds which we will extend to accommodate 20 birds down the road. The detailed plans are available on Etsy for $17. If you are interested check out this link.

Dream green!
